Speaking of instant messaging, it looks like AOL is moving towards the first real innovation in this space in a while — the latest beta version of AIM allows you to send short messages to friends’ cell phones via SMS as well.
They’ve had a mobile-phone version of AIM for a while, but it’s pretty clunky and difficult to use, and nowhere near as ubiquitous as SMS is. It’s good to see AOL opening up a little bit — now if we could just get them to interoperate with Jabber… [Seen on Marc’s Voice]
